Perfecting your Skin without Surgery

Cosmetic care does not have to be extreme! Injectables have virtually no downtime and can produce significant results. Juvéderm® injectable gel falls into the category of “fillers,” which are designed to fill in wrinkles and depressions in the face. These injectables disappear after a period of time. BOTOX®Cosmetic is slightly different in that it weakens the facial muscles thus lessening the appearance of wrinkles and frown lines.

Botox Cosmetic & Injectables

Dynamic wrinkles occur over time from repeated muscle movement. BOTOX® Cosmetic treats “dynamic” facial wrinkles that form as horizontal lines across the forehead, vertical creases between the eyebrows and crow’s-feet on the outside corners of the eyes. Results usually last three to four months before retreatment is necessary.

BOTOX® Cosmetic injection is a simple, nonsurgical, procedure with no downtime. Often called a “lunchtime procedure,” treatment requires no recovery. If you’re looking for something to treat your stubborn frown lines between your brows, be sure to talk to Dr. Diaz about BOTOX® Cosmetic and find out if it is right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions about BOTOX

How does BOTOX® work?
BOTOX® is a neuromuscular agent that’s injected directly into specific facial muscles to reduce the appearance of lines and creases that form as a result of repeated facial movements. When we smile, frown or make other expressions, nerve signals travel from the brain to muscles in the face, causing those muscles to contract. These muscle contractions tug on the overlying skin, causing lines to form. Over time, these lines become deep and persistent, resulting in a worn, tired appearance. BOTOX® works by interrupting the nerve signals between these facial nerves and the brain so muscles aren’t instructed to contract and lines can’t form.
What happens during a BOTOX® treatment?
First, the treatment area will be very carefully evaluated to determine the best placement for the injections. Then, the injections sites will be carefully cleaned and the BOTOX® solution will be injected using very fine needles. Most patients experience very little discomfort beyond some minor “pinching” during the injections. Depending on the extent of the wrinkling, multiple injection sites may be needed to achieve the desired effect. Once the injections are complete, ice can be applied to reduce any temporary swelling or discomfort that may occur.
Can BOTOX® be used to treat all types of wrinkles?
No, BOTOX® is only used to treat “dynamic” wrinkles that form as a result of repeated facial movements, including crow’s feet, forehead lines and “frown lines” that form between the eyebrows. “Static” wrinkles that form primarily as a result of genetics and sun exposure must be treated with other options, like fillers, chemical peels or microdermabrasion. Many patients have BOTOX® as well as injectable fillers like Juvederm® or Radiesse® to treat both dynamic and static wrinkles without resorting to more invasive treatment options like surgery.
How soon will I see results?
Most patients see results within a week or so of treatment.
How long will the results of a BOTOX® treatment last?
The effects of BOTOX® last about four months or a little longer. Many patients find having repeated injections on a regular basis helps soften lines and creases so they can wait a little longer between injections.

Juvederm Treatments

Juvéderm® is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid – a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. Your cosmetic care health professional eases Juvéderm® injectable gel under the skin to instantly restore your skin’s volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, like your “smile lines” or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds – the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth). Juvéderm® is FDA-approved, and it has been proven safe for use in patients of color.

Frequently Asked Questions about JUVEDERM

What is Juvederm®?
Juvederm® is a cosmetic filler that relies on a substance called hyaluronic acid to help skin retain moisture so it looks and feels plumper and more resilient. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in healthy skin, but as we get older, production of hyaluronic acid declines, which means skin is unable to effectively retain as much moisture as it does while we’re young. As a result, skin begins to lose volume and sag, and lines and creases begin to form. Juvederm® injections help replace some of the hyaluronic acid lost to the aging process so skin can retain more moisture, appearing firmer and plumper.
Can Juvederm® be used to treat all types of wrinkles?
No, cosmetic fillers like Juvederm® are used to treat static wrinkles, those lines and creases that form as a result of sun and other environmental exposures, gravity, genetics, and even stress and illness. Wrinkles that form as a result of facial movements, including crow’s feet and forehead lines, are called dynamic wrinkles, and they can be treated with BOTOX®. Many patients have injections of both Juvederm® and BOTOX® to treat both static and dynamic wrinkles.
Can Juvederm® be used to restore volume?
Yes, in addition to treating lines and wrinkles in the face, Juvederm® is an excellent choice for restoring lost volume, especially in the cheeks and the lips. Lost volume contributes to a worn, sagging, tired-out appearance, and replacing lost volume can help the face appear rejuvenated, rested and more youthful.
What happens during a Juvederm® treatment?
First, the patient’s face will be carefully evaluated to determine the best placement for the injections. Next, the injection sites will be cleansed and a topical anesthetic may be applied to numb the skin in the injection sites. Juvederm® may be injected in several locations in the treatment area, depending on the extent of the area and the depth of the creases.
How long will the results of my Juvederm® treatment last?
Juvederm® results last for about a year in most patients, and touch-up treatments can help the results last much longer.
